In his latest book, Everything is F*cked: A Book About Hope, Mark Manson shares that we need three things to build and maintain hope:
- ‘Control’ – a sense that we have choice in our life
- ‘Values’ – that we have something that is important enough to strive for
- ‘Community’ – a group of people that have the same values and want similar things
Now let’s turn around and apply those three things to your group fitness sessions:
Your clients are a group of people (Community) making the choice (Control) to endure tough workouts with the goal of living a healthier life (Values).
In this age where we have reached unseen levels of depression hope is needed more than ever.
In my experience with depression, life without hope is hollow, life without hope is pointless, life without hope doesn’t feel worth living.
But in your group fitness sessions, for at least 1 hour a day, you create a space where people can build hope.
Don’t discount the impact you’re having on your clients. People need hope.
Before I go, if you personally are feeling hopeless, talk to someone today about it. A friend, a colleague, a family member or try one of the numbers below.
