Tis the season for warmth, holiday cheer and the spirit of giving – and STEALING! The latter part is what the White Elephant Gift Exchange is all about. Everyone gets to share in the fun of opening gifts (that may be nice or ridiculous). But don’t get too attached – because your shiny new gift may be swiped right out of your hands!
This workout incorporates the silly spirit of the White Elephant Gift Exchange and gives it a sweaty new spin!
What You Will Need
First and foremost, a pile of gifts! You can go about this a couple ways. You could provide all the gifts yourself, and keep the overall expense low by picking up a bunch of items from your local dollar store. Sometimes you can find some amazing gems in bargain stores! This could work well if you don’t have a large bootcamp, or choose to do the workout in teams (see below). If you have a larger group, you could ask everyone to bring an inexpensive (or re-gifted) White Elephant-style gift on the day of the workout. Regardless of how the gift items are procured, they should all be wrapped.
How It Works
Everyone does a full round of exercises from the NICE LIST. By completing these exercises, they have officially earned their way onto Santa’s NICE LIST, and have the right to choose and open a wrapped gift.
After first Nice List completion – campers may buy the right to STEAL* if they choose. But stealing is naughty, so in order to become a gift thief, the camper must choose two exercises from the NAUGHTY LIST** to buy a steal that can be used at any time.
If a camper has earned a steal and someone opens a gift that the camper wants, the camper can immediately steal. If your gift is stolen – you can immediately complete any two exercises off the Nice List to choose a new wrapped gift OR do 2 exercises off the Naughty List to steal one that’s already out (if that camper hasn’t already earned a steal).
*The same gift can only be stolen THREE times before it no longer may be stolen
**If doing exercises from Naughty List, must choose two new ones each time.
Another option if you have a large group is to do this workout team-style. Split your group into two teams. Have them individually complete exercises (and hold a plank if they finish before their teammates) and then choose ONE gift for the team. Teams can collaborate to decide if and when they want to buy and/or use a steal.
(can use any exercises, but consider this list the exercises people enjoy most/complain about the least)
25 jumping jacks
12 walking lunges
25 skater jumps (both sides = 1)
12 squat hold jumping jacks
25 bicycle crunches
(can use any exercises, but consider this list the exercises people enjoy least/complain about the most)
25 split lunges
12 Bear crawls
25 hollow rocks
12 Wide push-ups
25 Up & Down planks
Keep going until all gifts have been distributed!
Optional Speed Round
If all gifts have been distributed and you still have some time left, finish with a Steal Speed Round! Give your campers a specific amount of time to earn as many steals as possible (by completing two Naughty List exercises per steal). Keep track of every steal that a camper earns and the order in which it was earned. At the end of the allotted time, have campers take turns stealing their preferred gifts from other campers until all the steals have been used.

Hi! I’m Robin and I own Power Jam Fitness in Los Angeles, CA. I found my way into training through roller derby, of all things. I’m a Certified Personal Trainer and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. I originally started Power Jam Fitness to help roller derby skaters get proper strength and conditioning training, but now I’m all about helping people of all walks of life discover their own inner athletes. When I’m not training, working out or roller skating, I’m spending time with my husband Michael and Best Cat in the World Olly, enjoying live music, and pretending to be a rock star on the karaoke stage.
