Last week I shared a drill over on BootCraft that I used in one of my workouts. I had accidentally underplanned my workout so I needed to come up with something on the fly.
It’s inspired by those epic battles by car in the desert that you might remember from the latest Mad Max movie. It makes for a great finisher, all you need is a few slam balls, dead balls or medicine balls.
It’s called…
The Furiosa Slam
Backstory:
The War Boys and Furiosa are battling it out over the desert. Teams need to get as many bombs (dead balls) onto the other teams convoy before the timer runs out and they explode.
Set Up:
Set out in parallel two lines of 6 to 10 cones. Each cone in the line is 5 metres apart.
Place a deadball between each pair of cones except the first cone (so there is an odd number of cones). Split your campers into two teams. I walked around counting them off by alternating ‘War Boy’ and ‘Furiosa’.
Get everyone down at the first cone with the War Boys on the right and team Furiosa on the left.
How It Works:
One person from each team runs out to a ball of their choice. They then dead ball slam the ball next to the other teams cone. Then they run back to tag another person who picks another ball and does the same.
Once their are no more balls left between cones, teams will need to start grabbing balls from their set of cones and then slamming them down next to the other teams cone.
Run the game for 2-3 minutes with the winning team being the team with the most balls on their side when the time runs out.
If the game is close, play again for just 60 seconds.
Notes:
- If you have teams of more than 6 people, have 2 people running out at a time (11 or more? 3 people etc).
- In the last few minutes of the game double the number of people on each team who can run out.
In the diagram below, the War Boys have won as they have less balls on their side.
