Tyre Flip

The quintessential tyre exercise is the flip. You will need a larger diameter tyre to effectively do this exercise. For bootcamp we are going to do a deadlift style flip. This is because for the most part we won’t be using tyres heavy or large enough to require a traditional flip.
Teaching points:
Get in close to the tyre. To do this you will need to place your feet wide with the insoles along the edge of the tyre. Place your hands under the lip of the tyre. Sit hips low and lift the chest straitening the back. Drive through the legs to lift the tyre – keep your arms straight. Walk forward with the tyre to tip it over. Do not bend the arms as this will place all of the pressure on your biceps, a fairly small muscle not designed to take heavy weights. The bicep is very commonly torn by strongmen doing a flip incorrectly.
