Here’s a great progression of exercises that you might have forgotten about. Throw them back in for variety.
In the video below you’ll see me do 2 reps of the Yoga Push Ups which is pretty much a push up with a downward dog done in between each rep. These are awesome as an exercise for your mobility warm up.
Then you’ll see me do the Hindu Push Up which is more of a downward dog to upward dog followed by a reset. Such a good exercise for building strength at the bottom of the push up plus getting some great thoracic extension on the upward dog.
Last you’ll see me do a couple reps of Dive Bomber Push Ups which is like the Hindu Push Up but instead of reseting you reverse the movement to get back to the downward dog. These are seriously tough. Make sure campers raise and ‘lead’ with their hips as they reverse the movement. If they can’t seem to get it, they need to spend more time on the Hindu Push Up.
Of course these are all progressions and regressions of each other so go ahead and put Hindu Push Ups in your next workout. For those that can’t do them have them do Yoga Push Ups (they can even drop to their knees for the push ups if they can’t do full push ups yet). For those that are crushing it have them do Dive Bomber Push Ups.
Kyle Wood created Bootcamp Ideas in 2010 when he was hunting around on the internet for workout ideas. He ran a successful bootcamp in Victoria, Australia and spends his spare time managing this site, adventuring (or lazying) with his wife and find new ways to make bootcamps even better.
