On the first day of Christmas my campers said to me…
Christmas is coming and in my bootcamp it’s well known that Christmas is my favourite time of the year! The family time, the festivities the FOOD (it’s also well known that I love food)! SO I have designed a workout to keep all team members happy; Christmas lovers and Grinch’s alike!
- Christmas lovers will enjoy it because it is based on the word CHRISTMAS!
- Those of you out there who resemble the Grinch will enjoy it because once you get halfway through, you’ll think Christmas is a pretty nasty word..
Without further ado, I give you –
The (boot)Camper Christmas Challenge!
Length: 45 minutes
Equipment needed: Cones, A Hill, Mats, Medicine Balls
Warm Up:
Reindeer Run
A jog around your regular running loop but you must run single file.
On the trainers call the runner from the back must run past the rest of the team to the front and be “Rudolph” for a short time.
Continue changing lead reindeer around the entire loop.
(Maybe you’ll need to do 2 loops if you have a lot of campers OR have two teams of reindeer and see which team gets back first.)
Rob The Nest Reversed – Gift Giving!
Each team starts with an even number of “gifts” and the goal is to give as many away as possible. The team with the least number of gifts left at the end of the time frame is the winner.
- Rather than just running during this game have campers do mobility movements: high knees, butt kicks, side steps, lunges, etc,
- If you have people waiting their turn then make sure they are moving as well: star jumps, shuffling, cross jumps, etc.
Workout:
20 Minutes
AMRAP – As Many Rounds As Possible
The goal is for clients to complete this course as many times as possible in 20 minutes. It is up to you, and your space, as to how you set this course up but the image below shows you how we worked it in our park!
C – Crawling (bear crawls)
H – Hopping (travelling bunny hop)
R – Run
I – Inchworm (make this one long, your campers will love it.. hehe)
S – Squat Jump
T – Turning Plank Walk
M – Medball OH Walking
A – Abdominal Rolls
S – Step Back Lunges, walking backwards (Step back with right leg into a lunge, then bring left foot backwards to stand up. Step back with left leg into a lunge, then bring right foot backwards to stand up)
Finisher:
Again, even those who love Christmas carols might not be such a fan of this one by the end…
Jingle Bells
Verses – High Plank with side toe taps
Chorus – Alternating thrusters + plank jacks
(jump feet in, jump feet out, jump feet apart, jump feet together)
Meet Jane Evans
Hey! It’s Kyle here quickly. This week’s workout is from Bootcamp Ideas’ newest regular contributor, Jane Evans, so let’s give her a warm Bootcamp Ideas welcome! I asked Jane to share a little about herself so you can get to know her and what she’s about:
I have always been interested in health and fitness and throughout my childhood I struggled with a number of mental health issues surrounding health and body image. As such, exercise has always played an incredibly important roll in my life and is something I have always been passionate about. I actually recall being 14 or 15 and my dad calling me ‘GI Jane’ as we joked about me starting a boot camp when I finished school.
However, I finished school in 2010 and went straight to university to study Primary Education. I was never completely ‘sold’ on the idea of this as a career but I knew that it would serve me well in teaching me a great range of skills and also in opening a lot of doorways and opportunities throughout my life.
After teaching for 2 and a half years and being lucky enough to have my very own class in 2015 and in 2016 I decided that it was time for a change, time to chase a dream. I completed my studies to become a PT and jumped right in.
Let’s Do Life launched in April 2017 and the rest, as they say, is history!

What’s your favourite Christmas workout or drill to use with your campers? Send it in or share below!
Jane started her women’s only bootcamp in 2017 with the goal of helping women fall in love with healthy and active living. Her passion for fitness and personal training is reignited every time a client achieves something they never thought possible or discovers a new life long love for moving their body!
Just curious what your “Abdominal Rolls” exercise is for the “A” in your CHRISTMAS workout. Thanks!
Hey Courtney – sorry I should have put up a quick video with that one too! Lay on your back, V-snap arms and legs up (or simply a crunch is a lower intensity version), lay back down, roll and repeat! Challenge is to roll without using your arms/hands to push yourself!!
