Despite what advertisements and gurus tell you online, there is no easy way to run a business.
(Sorry to burst that bubble.)
But the good news is that you can run your business with ease. Ease doesn’t mean easy. Ease means that even when you face challenges, overcoming them feels satisfying and successful, because they are challenges you are equipped to overcome.
Let me use a story to explain:
The Difference Between Ease and Easy
In 2012 I signed up for my first obstacle course race. I remember it was a 7km Spartan Race – I think they called it a Sprint.
Now if you’re a runner, you’re probably thinking ‘pshhh 7km is nothing’. Well I’m a fast-over-short-distances person, anything longer than 100m and I’m done.
I invited a bunch of my clients to do the race too. We added an extra special session each week focusing on the skills and training we’d need to take on the obstacles we’d face.
A few months later we finished the race and I remember having such a sense of accomplishment. Not just for myself, but for my clients who had completed something way out of their own comfort zones.
This feeling of helping someone do something they didn’t think possible (and in turn doing something I hadn’t really thought possible) was what being a trainer was all about to me.
But…
Running extra sessions each week, keeping clients motivated and excited, organising travel for everyone to the event and completing the race where not easy tasks.
Not easy, no, they did have a sense of ease and purpose about them though.
That’s the difference between easy and ease.
How To Find More Ease In Running Your Business and Classes
As self-employed trainers and business owners, we should only be running our business in a way that aligns with who we are. Otherwise, why work for yourself? Why just create a job for yourself?
I’ve always found the most long-term success from tuning into my strengths and who I am naturally. Sure, I can fudge some short-term success by following someone else’s plan, but long term it tends to fizzle or a burn out (or both).
These days I have a business that gives me a ton of freedom, both in time and creative expression. A business that serves a community of trainers I really care about. I get to spend an exorbitant amount of time with my two young daughters. I volunteer many hours to my local community as a firefighter. I have a great relationship with my wife. I have time for my health to cook, read, slow down and exercise.
Yes, I could make more money – but I consciously choose to work less in order to embrace who I am and to have more ease.
That is the power of taking the time to work out how you operate best. It allows you to define success on your own terms.
If this sparks something in you then you might be interested in the new program I’m running for fitness professionals starting next month called Aligned Success.
Aligned Success is not a one-size-fits-few plan like other coaching and mentoring programs out there.
It’s a program of deep delf-discovery where you’ll let go of all the noise around how you should run your business as a fitness professional and instead remember how you operate best in life and business.
We’ll look at how you manage your energy and time best, how to create aligned marketing opportunities and how you make important business decisions.
You’ll get way more clarity around what’s next for you as a trainer and a fitness professional and, importantly, how to get there.
Keep reading for the details of Aligned Success.

Aligned Success FAQs
What can I expect to achieve by the end of the 13 weeks?
The biggest thing: Clarity. A clear sense of where you’re going with your business and, just perhaps, an idea of how to get there.
How much does it cost?
Prices are available upon successful application. I don’t do this to trick you, I do this because I want you to have a clear picture of the value you get from the program before deciding.
There is a payment plan available.
How do I know if this right for me?
You’ll get the most out of this program if you’re open to a new way of thinking. Let’s face it, your approach at the moment isn’t really working.
It helps if you are ‘woo-woo’ or crunchy to. We’ll weave this stuff back to practical business matters, but we’re also going to go there.
