Welcome trainers, to our (mostly) annual workout idea competition!
The Annual Bootcamp Ideas Competition is a yearly hunt for some great new workout ideas and it’s a chance for you to share your favourite workout creations with the community.
My hope is that this year’s competition will create an excellent collection of workout ideas for the whole Bootcamp Ideas community.
Here’s the quick version of how it works:
Step1: Trainers (any trainer) send in their workout ideas.
Step 2: The ideas are posted here on the Bootcamp Ideas blog for all to see and use.
Step 3: As a community of trainers, we’ll test out the workouts we like the look of and try them out at our sessions.
Step 4: Then we’ll vote on the one’s we liked the most.
Prizes are given to our favourites and there is also a random giveaway so anyone who’s entry is accepted has a chance to win.
Don’t hesitate to enter, you might just win!
The competition is over: View this year’s Winners!
Please read everything below before entering to make sure your entry is accepted and to help make my life a bit easier.
This Year’s Theme is…
Minimal Equipment Group Fitness Workouts
In previous years the competition theme has included all kinds of different types of drills: warm ups, ice breakers, finishers, fast drills and full blown workouts.
This year I think we’d all love to see what everyone has been running in their sessions lately, be it online or in small groups without much equipment.
Your entry could be a drill you’ve found works awesome on Zoom or a partner workout that doesn’t require campers to touch each other. A workout idea delivered on any system is welcome, the key element is that it uses only a little equipment.
I’m going to be keeping an eye out for drills that:
- use creative ways to engage clients
- use a small piece of equipment in interesting ways
- treat limitations as an opportunity to do something completely different
- are easy to follow and teach

B. Daily Mission Cards – Creative Play & Movement Missions:
Child-led imaginative play reflects real life, it teaches everything from social skills to numeracy, dexterity to emotional and physical balance. Climbing, running, dancing; in this movement, a healthy sense of freedom and of moving towards one’s goals is experienced. The older we get, the less we play.
If you struggle to fit play into your day, choose one of our 50 Daily Mission Cards to nurture your inner child.
The deck holds seven different types of play which all represent a different colour of the rainbow. Each colour is made up of seven missions making a total of 49 missions in the deck. The 50 th card is the special rainbow magic card which can be completed as the last card in the deck or however you choose to use the missions.
The cards are designed to offer ideas and activities to encourage those who use them to take a daily dose of play into their lives! They aim to act as a catalyst for activity – not to be the only way to play but ones that will guide and help shape time with family, friends, work colleagues and of course your inner child!
C. 6 months Premium PTMinder membership which includes:
- Client management and results tracking
- Calendar style scheduling of group and one on one sessions
- Take payments (CC and direct debit) and bookings online
- SMS and email reminders
- Assign workouts and nutrition programs
Gift For All Successful Entrants
If your workout gets accepted and published you will get just for entering:
6 weeks membership to BootCraft which includes:
- Hundreds of workout ideas (over 700 ideas)
- Search and filter database
- On demand workout ideas when you need them
- Save hours of time coming up with new ideas
- Access to weekly updates
That’s awesome value, just for entering!
Other Awards
There are several awards we like to hand out that don’t come with prizes, just bragging rights. Here they are:
- Trainer’s Choice: Given to the highest voted workout drill.
- Most Creative Workout: Given to the workout that really stands out as something unique.
- Best Teambuilder: Given to the best workout that makes good use of teambuilding elements.
Plus, I might just make up a new award if I think a workout is worth it. I also might not give out one of the above awards if none of the entries fit the category.
You’re just going to have to live with my pedantic nature.
How To Enter
Contestants will submit one of their favourite online workout ideas in the proper format (see below) via this form.
A shortlist will then be created by the Bootcamp Ideas readers and our judges.
Successful entrants will be posted as they come in on Bootcamp Ideas for everyone to check out.
To be a successful entrant your workout should follow (at least closely) the format outlines below. Any unusual exercises should have links to a video demo or a thorough explanation. If we need more info, we’ll email you for it.
I know a lot of you write your workouts in shorthand, I do the same, please expand them into long hand before submitting your entry. Take the time to be as clear as possible.
We have had some great entries in the past that did not to well simply because trainers didn’t understand them in the way they were written so it’s worth taking an extra 20 minutes or asking someone else to read it before you submit it. If you struggle with writing, just let us know when you submit your entry and we’ll do out best to help.
How to Format Your Workout for Entry
Each entry should be formatted in clear sections like any you would find on Bootcamp Ideas.
Here’s what it should look like:
Drill Name: please give your drill an awesome name
Drill Length: eg. 5 minutes
Drill Category: would you like to enter this as an online drill or minimal equipment workout?
Drill Description:
Include any set up/preparation, how the drill works, exercises and any videos or pictures that will help.
About You: write a few lines about you and your business
Website: add your website or a social media URL here
Some things to check before submitting:
- Create subheadings if your workout has multiple parts.
- Check for typos!
- Expand any shorthand you have used to full length. Acronym’s like AMRAP and EMOM are acceptable though.
- Last but not least, give your drill a name!
Your workout will be posted to Bootcamp Ideas more or less as is so the clearer it is to follow, the better chances you have of winning!
Important: What I won’t accept:
- Other people’s workouts (without their permission). I know we tend to see and adapt off of other peoples workouts so there will always be some overlap, that’s fine. However I won’t accept a workout that has been pretty much copied from someone’s blog post, book or membership site.
- Workouts that are too basic. By this I mean if your workout is a list of 30 exercises done for a minute each or a circuit done 3 times for a minute each, I won’t accept it. The beauty of these competitions is sharing stuff that is fresh and new and can be used by other trainers. Try to share something unique.
- Poorly formatted. If your workout is written in short hand or there are a lot of typo’s that make it hard to understand.
In any of these cases please know that I won’t just reject you like an a**hole without saying anything. I’ll probably just ask you to submit a new idea or make your existing one clearer so keep an eye on your entry for that.
Entries close Sunday 11:59pm May 31st, 2020 AEST.
Voting
The competition is over: View this year’s Winners!
Voting will begin on Monday June 8th, 2020 which will give us time to get the entries live and for you to start trying some out.
The winners will be judged by both the voting from the readers and by the judges who consists of a select group of trainers (including those donating prizes). Combining the two methods means someone will not just win because they have the most Facebook friends who voted for them.
The Random Draws will be drawn randomly out of a hat from the remaining entrants. So anyone who puts themselves out there and enters has a chance to win!
All winners will be announced on Monday June 29th at midday AEST here on the blog and on Facebook (I’ll also email you). This will give us time to test out which and vote for the drills we like.
Submit your entry here:
Please submit your entry using the button below. Entries are now closed, voting starts soon!
Entries close Sunday 11:59pm May 31st, 2020 AEST (note that is an Australian timezone). A maximum of 20 entries will be accepted, first in best dressed. This is to stop it from being way too overwhelming in choice for those testing and voting.
During the last competition the entries filled up about 4 days so make sure you get yours in fast!
Entries will be posted on the Bootcamp Ideas blog as we get them so the sooner you enter, the more people who will probably see your workout and get to try it out.
